General rental terms & conditions

  1. Driver’s license: The person renting as well as each driver designated in the contract must have a valid current driver’s license and must have held it for at least a year.
  2. Age: The person renting and any other driver must be at least 21 years old (23 years old for a convertible on Réunion)
  3. Reservations: Reservations must be booked at least 2 days in advance, 1 day for Saint Martin (by bank card only).
    • All categories are confirmed automatically when you book.
  4. Contract period: The minimum rental period is 1 day. We offer 1 hour's grace when you return the car, after which an additional day will be charged.
    • Early return: If the car is returned early, unused days will not be refunded.
    • Extension: The rental is for a set period which is defined in the contract when you pick up the vehicle. If you wish to extend the rental period, you must do so in person at the agency where you picked up the car, or phone Voiture des Iles on 0590 25 24 32 to extend your rental contract.
  5. Deposit: Exclusively by national or international bank card issued in the name of the person renting the vehicle (an imprint of the card will be taken as a precautionary measure).
  6. Terms & conditions: When picking up the vehicle the customer must present the original of the rental voucher issued by Voiture des Iles.
  7. Roadside assistance: Voiture des Iles offers 24-hour a day roadside assistance if the vehicle breaks down or is damaged.
  • Collision
  • Damage Waiver (CDW): Partial refund of the excess if a Voiture des Iles vehicle is involved in an accident. In the case of material damage to a Voiture des Iles vehicle, the CDW limits the customer's liability to the amount of the minimum non-refundable excess. This non-refundable excess will be reimbursed at the time that a claim is made, if a third party is clearly identified by the insurer as being responsible for the accident. If the amount of damages to the Voiture des Iles vehicle is less than the amount of the non-refundable excess, Voiture des Iles will reimburse the difference to the customer renting the vehicle. Damages are understood to mean the cost of repair, immobilisation, security, towing and administrative costs. Exclusions: The customer renting also remains fully liable for damage to bodywork and the underneath, damage caused by unfamiliarity with the size or shape of the vehicle, damage to tires (unless the tire damage is the result of an accident), and to individual equipment and accessories whether or not the vehicle itself was damaged.
  • Theft Protection (TP): Partial refund of the excess if a Voiture des Iles vehicle is stolen. In the case of theft or attempted theft or act of vandalism, the TP insurance limits the customer’s liability to the amount of the minimum non-refundable excess. A declaration of theft must be made to the local police within 24 hours and produced along with the vehicle keys to the Voiture des Iles agency. Exclusions: The following are not covered: Personal effects (such as cameras, music players, video equipment, phones, jewellery, precious stones, cash, valuable papers and documents, works of art, animals, goods or equipment used for business or commercial purposes, etc). Negligence by the vehicle user: In particular, keys left in or with the vehicle, failure to return keys and administrative papers, or failure to declare the vehicle’s theft within 24 hours will cause the deposit to be forfeited and the customer to be billed for the residual value of the vehicle.
  • Passenger Assistance & Insurance (PAI): Assistance and personal insurance for passengers. For the contract period Voiture des Iles provides the customer with death and invalidity benefit (see official terms and conditions) and cover for medical expenses in the case of an accident.
